So you are aware, I play tabletop RPGs. Basically every character I build is either an orphan or, more likely, far away from home and never deals with his family. After reading the alt text, I turned the latest one into a far away from home character, but one who regularly calls home to check up on the folks and tell them whats going on with him. This will add entirely new elements to the game and I can’t wait to see how the others react when my character asks the others if they’ve called home yet.

In regards to the orphan hero/villain as much as it is writer laziness, in literature it’s also a way to have the character shaped in front of the reader by outside parental type forces that the character may choose themselves.

Ahh yes. The Dan Diddio method of Superhero writers: ALL BATMAN CHARACTERS SHOULD BE DEPRESSED AND UNHAPPY, AND ALL SUPERHEROES SHOULD BE BATMAN!!!!!!
